Latest Project

The next set of towels that I did.  They turned out quite well.

Not much going on, went yesterday to get clear panels for the back porch.  We enclose it during the winter months.  Then we went to get parts for the wood stove, so that I can have heat out in the barn this winter.  I have been using an electric one for the last couple of years.  We decided that it was time to get heat that didn't cost us a fortune to run.  Matt bought a couple sheets of plywood to hopefully get started on my knew book shelves.  We are book people and I told him no more books are to be brought into the house until we get more shelves. (didn't work)  I sure tried though.

Hope you all have a great day.

Looks a lot like Christmas......

This looks more like Christmas than Thanksgiving!  It is beautiful, but....I really don't want to have to look at it for the remainder of winter.   If this is a prelude to what winter has in store for us, then please lets skip it!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.(those of us who celebrate it now) Mine was great, with one exception and that is my turkey was not done with the rest of dinner.  We still had a great dinner, who needs turkey when you have all the other fixings and such great dessert!  I was so disappointed with the turkey but the family made me feel so much better about it.  They were right....Thanksgiving is about giving thanks and our thanks is being able to share the day with family!  So, in that respect, it was a wonderful day.

Hope you have a great weekend.

put..put...put...put no its not a John Deere

International 3 horse power, hit and miss engine.

The first picture is an International 3 horse power, hit and miss engine. It was used on farms before tractors were invented.  This particular engine is from 1919.  The last picture is a grinder for wheat, oats or even corn. We will use the engine to run the grinder with a belt that goes from the engine to the grinder.  The engine runs on kerosene.   We love going to the fairs or even to what is called a Gas Up engine shows.  They have them all over around here.  So, we decided to get in on the act.  The hubby and son have been working on the engine, it wasn't running when they bought it.  We plan on participating in shows this next coming year.

Hope you have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

The winner is............

Matt!  He went to what is called Midnight Madness (town wide business sales).  He won this out of 100 entrants.   He gave it to me tonight, instead of waiting until Christmas.  I already knew he won something, they called and I answered, he was gone.  It is 9.92k blue topaz, tennis bracelet.  Now all I have to do is wait for the opportunity to wear it.

Yesterday was spent in the hospital getting a cyst  taken out of the inside of my left ear.  It is called a cholesteatoma, it can be bad if it gets inside the middle ear.  I was lucky enough to catch it before it got too big and inside the middle ear.  I will have to keep an eye on it and make sure it does not grow back.  If it gets too big it can start to deteriorate the bones in the ear and even cause deafness and more severe problems.

Today was spent getting things for Thanksgiving, finishing my towels and taking them off the loom and sending things out in the mail.  Tomorrow will be spent making pies and dessert for Thanksgiving.

Hope you are healthy and happy!

Winter in November

It defiantly looks like winter.  The horses waiting for their feed.  The sky looks pretty awesome, even with the flurries flying.    The NYS thruway is still closed, around 140 miles of it.  I am glad that we are not getting what western NY is getting.   I can't imagine getting over 6 feet of snow in less that three days.  I feel so bad for them.

Cleaned house today, then went out to the weave room.  I have the next set of towels just about done.  Then they will be on their way to my special blog friend.  I will post pictures soon.

Be happy and healthy.

Winter

This, of course, is not a picture of winter.  I just thought that I would give most of us a long look at what we are leaving behind for a few months.   I don't know what is worse sometimes, the snow and ice or the rain and mud.  We all have our favorite seasons.   I usually hate contending with the snow, but for some reason, I am actually looking forward to seeing the snow.  I just wish it would of waited another month or so.  I am beginning to really appreciate every season we do have.  I believe that they all have their good points and their bad.   I think it comes down to that if you know how to live with all the seasons you are much better off.   I am just glad that we get all of them.  Not everyone gets to experience all the seasons.

Everything around here is pretty much changing.   We have actually gotten further this year in getting ready for the snowy season than previous years.  The guys have been working hard at getting the things put away.   Now if I can get the hubby to keep all the equipment out of the front yards next year,  I will be very happy.   Here I am already thinking of next year.

Hope you are happy and healthy!

Our day, again!

Yesterday was another mother, daughter adventure.  We are standing in front of the aquarium in Bass Pro Shops.  Bought a new winter coat and shirt, then bought the guys some stuff for Christmas.  We started out at Burlington Coat Factory, I bought a new pair of  dress boots.  I was proud of the daughter, she didn't ask mom for any money.  Then we headed to the casino to do some gambling, I lost money didn't win any.  I only lost a whole whopping 30 dollars.  Wasn't really in the mood to lose more than that.  Then headed home.   It was flurrying when we got there and by the time we left it was snowing pretty good.   We had a great day together!

Hope you had a great week.

Monday

Well, it sure is nice to have the family back together again.

We had a pretty busy weekend.  Took the turkeys to the butchers and now we have fresh turkey in the freezer for Thanksgiving and Christmas and Easter and ...........   We had a total of 6 turkeys.  We moved the little chicken house next to the big chicken house.  We cleaned stalls and the barn floor.  The hubby and sons cleaned the calf shed.  All in one weekend.

Now it is time to go to our weekly jobs.  Matt is drilling, Tawny goes to Rite Aid (pharmacy), and Kohl's, Kegan is back to college, and last but not least, I am back to weaving!  Whew, I think I have everyone now.

Hope you all have a great week.

Last day at the farm

 View from the pasture.
The cabin for getting away and family time.
Uncle Rich coming to the pasture to get wood.
Aunt Sandy
More pictures of the farm.  I love the road ways on the farm.  I even got a picture of the Aunt this time, she was helping with the firewood.   This will be the last post of the farm.  The memories will always be with us!

Not much else is going on, made bread this afternoon.  I will be going out to do chores shortly and then maybe get some time up in the barn doing some weaving.   Then its spaghetti for supper.

Hope you have a great weekend.

Who and what is that !?

That is the son holding five brussel sprout plants.   They look pretty awesome when they are held together like that.   I had to take a picture, Aunt Sandy gave us their plants.  I happen to love brussel sprouts and Matt's, Aunt and uncle really don't care for them.  You ask why do they grow them if they don't like them, weeeelllll, I really don't know.  I think it is because Uncle Rich loves to garden and he grows as much stuff as he can.  That is ok, I was more than happy to take them off their hands.

I took lots of pictures last week when we were at the  farm.  I will be posting pictures of our last couple of days on the farm.

Hope you are having a great week.

End of an era

Matt's Aunt and Uncle sold most of the farm.  We went to help them move wood and other important things before they had to be off the property.  The whole family will miss the farm.  The hubby spent a lot of his childhood on the farm.  Since I have been part of the family, I have spent a lot of time on the farm also.  We even cut our Christmas tree one year on the property.

Its not often I see the hubby driving a John Deere!  He does like the old johnny poppers though.  The guys had to drive the tractors down out of the field after the wood was all loaded up.  Kegan was first in line, then Matt and finally Uncle Rich brought up the rear!

We all have some wonderful memories!
