Flooding

    • Fort plain
Flooding in Fort PlainThis is our  little town of Fort Plain and it was flooded by a creek that runs along the back side of the town. It has never flooded this bad for as long as I have been back and that was 13 years ago.  The waters have receded but the devastation is just horrendous.

Happy Anniversary

He is my farmer, a great cook, snow blower, wood sawing, husband and jack of all trades.  He takes care of his family and I am so glad that I found him twenty-eight years ago.  It is our 26th wedding anniversary today and I wouldn't trade one of those years that I have spent with him.  Thanks, honey for all that you do for us and we love you.  Oh, did I mention he is also a wonderful father!

And we are off!

The first time in 5 years that Sirocco has had a saddle on and been ridden.  My sister and niece and nephew and great niece and nephew are here from Illinois and my niece Amanda volunteered to get up and see how he would do.  He did no bucking and the problem we had was he did not want to move.  I told her I need her to stay here for another three weeks for me and get some time put on him.  She didn't agree to that.  I now know that all I need is someone younger and not afraid of him to put the time in.  Any volunteers?  :)

Our Graduate

Our son graduated Saturday from High School with lots of scholarships and honors.  We are so proud of him! It was a wonderful ceremony, the graduating kids did most of the speaches and it made they made the speaches more entertaining!  It was done in Cooperstown at the opera house, where they can open all the side windows and it was nice and comfortable!

Hay Season

Hay season is past here, but with the rain we have had it has been hard getting out in the fields to get it made.  The hubby did get out last night and mowed some down and the son is going out this morning to mow some more down.  Unfortunately they are still calling for chances of scattered showers in the evening but they don't know for sure if it will hit or not.  They first say no rain until Sunday afternoon then the next thing you here they are calling for slight chances of hit or miss showers from today all the way into Monday and then Monday is more of a chance of getting the rain.

As you can see from the pictures the hubby is in the process of making a new hay rack.  They had to fix the running gear and then it was sawing lumber for the rack itself and finally they got into building it.  As you can see they are making great progress and I will posting more pictures tomorrow of the progress.

My sister and niece and their kids will be here for the next week and that is wonderful.  But I know by the end of the week I will be ready to have my house back to myself.  I love having family visit but it is always nice to have your own space back when they leave.

We will be going out on the pontoon and maybe doing some sight seeing.  My son graduates from high school tomorrow and that is just wonderful.  We will be both going to  the same college next semester.  Hope you all have a wonderful day.

PS--on my side bar I did start a new blog with my weaving, take a peek and let me know how it looks to you and what I can do to improve it.,

Junk, but neat junk!

Most of you have seen this tractor over and over but I never get tired of blogging it.  I told the hubby out of all the old junk equipment we have this is the one piece of junk we will not get rid of.  It looks pretty darn nice out by the road in front of the tree.  Last year we used it to put the scarecrow on for Halloween and I decided that we would leave it there!  Hope you all are having a good week.

We have a winner!

Linda over at Life on a Colorado Farm has won the towel contest.  So, when I get the new towel warp on the loom I will be doing her color combination.  But you all gave me such great ideas and I will be using most of them if not all.  I am going to be having my towels displayed at a wonderful shop not too far from where we live.  The owner wants around thirty towels, boy, do I have my work cut out for me, which is fantastic!

Thank you again for such great ideas.  Hope you have a wonderful day.

New York

These will be the last pictures of our trip coming home from Maine, as we came into New York we went over the Lake Champlain Bridge.  The bridge is new and it was pretty darn impressive, the pictures don't do it justice.  It is the size of 7 & 1/3 football fields!

Rain is here again and we have flood warnings out until Saturday, hope you are faring better!  Have a wonderful day.

Vermont

This is some of the scenery in Vermont.  We saw the Moose sign all through Maine and then again in Vermont.  That is not a sign you see in New York, or at least I haven't!  I liked Vermont because it had beautiful mountains but yet plenty of farm ground.  We went up to over 2300 feet into the mountains of Vermont!  I would hate to see what kind of winters they have!  We did see a few homes that looked like they were year round homes but not too many.

Have a great day.  Don't forget to tell me what color towels you would like to see me weave and one of you might be a lucky winner of that towel.  The drawing is this Friday and good luck.  Just comment on any of my posts and I will put you into the drawing which is on my side bar!  Good luck.

New Hampshire

The top two pictures are taken in Rumford, New Hampshire.  The Rumford Falls on the Androscoggin River  is the highest falls east of Niagara, 40,000 kilowatts of electricity per hour is produced at the upper and lower dams.   This town also had a paper mill, but the trees pretty much obscured the view to where I could not get any pictures.  The last two pictures are some of the scenery of New Hampshire.  Unfortunately the weather was pretty dreary most of the time.

Hope you have a wonderful Tuesday.

Trip home

Don't ask me where these were taken, I just know that they were taken some where in Maine.  We decided to take the scenic route home Saturday being that is was raining and we really wouldn't be able to do too much at home when we did get there.  So, instead of taking us 8 hours to get home it took us 10!  We went through Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and then New York.  It was a great trip and very beautiful!  Maine was hard to see some of the country, it is all trees!

Hope you had a good weekend and now I hope you have a great week.

Horses (Sunday Stills)

We have gotten nothing but rain the last few days and it is pretty darn muddy.

Annie and Sirocco not too happy with being in stalls, but it has been pretty darn wet and muddy and I thought I would bring them in to let their feet dry out!  Hope you all are having a good weekend.  I have lots of pictures from being gone last week.  I will start posting tomorrow.

This and that

This is an old picture but we do have new bantam chicks.   Not a whole lot to report as of today.  I am still in Maine with the hubby doing some relaxation.  I have been weaving, doing homework(summer class) and reading.  We went out to a fabulous bar and grill, I had blackened chicken and alfredo, the hubby had tuna, rice, and beets.  It was really good and the people here in Maine are some of the nicest people!  Lots of trees, more than New York!  I almost hate not being able to see some flat ground, all we have seen is trees, trees, and more trees.

Crystal, this next one is for you.  The queen in the honey bee hive is larger than her worker bees, she is made by the worker bee egg and the worker bees feed her a special gel, when the hive gets too large they need another queen. I hope that answered your question, if not let me know.

Remember the contest goes on until next Friday!  Good luck. Have  a wonderful day.

A CONTEST!

These are the new towels that I am weaving, had to have something to do in the motel!  I took a little table loom to weave on that would fit in the truck with everything else we had to take.  I always seem to weave solid colors, this time I am doing blue and white with a twill pattern!   Since I love my bloggers, I am going to do a contest where I need some ideas on color combinations to do, so starting today I going to take some suggestions and I will put everyone into a hat and who ever I pick, I will do their color combinations and they will get a free towel!  The only catch is that you always show your towel to friends if you like it and let them know where you got it!  The contest will last one week, next Friday I will do the drawing.  Now remember it does take time to weave the towels, so it will be at least three weeks before you will receive your towel.  I need to make sure I have a free loom and then I have to do set-up and then weave them!  The color combinations you pick is what I will be weaving!

Hope you all have a wonderful day and good luck!

Honey Bee

The hubby bought two more hives for bees.  We now have four hives.  The original hive was making way too many queen bees.  The hubby found it before the bees got ready to swarm.  He had to move one of the queens into another hive and then had to get rid of the other queens before they hatched.  If a hive has more than one queen the bees will swarm and that is why we had to get the extra queens out of the hive.  The hubby has been doing pretty darn good with honey.  We don't do anything with the honey except to extract it from the comb and put into jars.  I know some people have expensive and special equipment to do their honey but we don't have the time or the money to get (special clean honey).  It is pretty raw, and most people love it!  We give it to family and friends!  It goes pretty darn fast, we are actually on our last quart that we have been trying to hold onto for as long as we can.

Hope everyone is having a great week.

Tractor Day

Friday last week was the son's last tractor day at the school.  This year not too many of the kids brought their tractors.  Only four were there this year.  The son decided to drag the hay wagon behind the tractor this year, also.  He was pretty excited to drive it again, and he had nice sunny, hot weather to drive in!  Even though the hubby had to go to the school and figure out why the tractor leaked engine oil, of course, he knew what was wrong and fixed it.

I sold more of my towels, I just have to get my butt in gear and learn how to do a web site.  Then I can sell some stuff on the web; but I think I will be doing a blog instead and just putting pay pal on it, in case anyone wants to buy stuff.

I am in Maine with the hubby and enjoying some alone time, I even brought the little table loom with us to get some weaving time in with no interruptions, and of course I have an online course that I am doing on top of that also.  One thing that was different on the trip up to Maine was seeing the Moose crossing warning signs!  Don't see those around where we are.

Hope you have a good week.

Old (new)

We traded the old truck that was the same year as our new one, but the old truck was all rusted out and we were putting buckets of money into it.  We saw this truck going to town one day and the hubby stopped and looked at it and I want it.  So we went and traded.   We got a good trade.  This 98 is 3500 diesel with no rust showing and has only 100,000 miles on it.   We love it.

I am feeling a lot better, still can't hear worth a darn out of my ear and still have that pulsing sound.  I am done with the antibiotics and now am taking strong sinus medicine that I had to actually ask for at the pharmacy counter to get it.  It helps but I sure hope the infection goes away without having to get more drugs!

The hubby is going to Maine next week for work and decided to go with him for the week.  I hope to be able to do some sight seeing.  I will be taking the camera this time!  Hope you are having a good weekend.
