window scraping

Yes, that is ice.  I had a lovely time driving home last night in the bad weather.  Now tonight I have a class at the college and it has warmed up and with the snow still on the ground, it makes fog!  So I get to drive home at 8:25 tonight in the fog.  Lucky me!  Hope you all had a wonderful day.

Well, the weather is horrible and you sure can tell it is winter, at least until Wednesday when they are calling for it to be in the 50's.  Right now we are getting snow and sleet and rain and have a winter advisory out until tomorrow morning at 7.  I don't mind snow but mother nature can keep the sleet!  I don't like to do ice.  I had a 40 minute drive home from the college this afternoon that actually took me over an hour to make.  The car is pretty darn good in the snow but the slushy stuff loves to throw her all over the road!  I did make it safe and sound, as you can tell or I wouldn't be doing this post.  :~)

Everything is normal and nothing knew going on at the farm.  The hubby did make it home last Wednesday afternoon!  That was nice to have him home!  Now he off to work back in NJ this week.

Hope everyone has a good week!

Ice anyone?

You can tell it is colder than a witches ......!  The horses are in the shed and they usually don't go in the shed unless it is really, really cold, its raining buckets or the wind is blowing 50 miles an hour.  We have had below    0 for the last couple of nights and a high of 9 degrees today and not a whole lot warmer tomorrow.  It has been a while since we have had these temps.    I think the snow is here to stay, flurries just about everyday and Friday they are calling for some accumulation, unless they change it before then, which knowing the weather men that is a possibility also!

Had my first day of school today and I was smart and read all my first chapters for my classes ahead of time.  I have a feeling though, that I won't stay ahead of the game for long!  Can't really tell for sure how the subjects will go yet.  I do like all my professors so, I guess that is a plus.   Just the fall semester after this one and I will have my associates in Business Administration.  I am actually glad that I see the end coming.  If I decide to go on to get a higher degree; I think most of my schooling will be done online at this point.

The hubby is coming home Thursday.  He will be home until Monday.  I told him to get ready for the weather.   He is going to have to get used to being back in the winter and not having that lovely 80 degree weather.  When he steps off that plane it will be coming back to the real world.   ;~)

Hope you all have wonderful evening.

Truck...........Rodeo

Not the best of pictures, but the best I could do with my phone camera.  Hopefully, the son has some good video on his camera and I will post a video tomorrow!  The kids and I went to the Monster Jam at the Times Union Center.  It was our Christmas present from me to the family, unfortunately the hubby was in Florida and couldn't come with us.  We sure missed having him with us.  We watch the trucks on TV and love them, and I have to say that this show in no way, does it justice, the arena is just too small!  But it did give us a taste of what a bigger show would be like and it would be awesome!   The hubby and I went to a big nationals tractor pulling in Kentucky one year and that was awesome, we keep telling ourselves it would be neat to make our 1066 into a pullin tractor, then we look at all the money involved and say NOoooooo, we will keep our money, thank you very much!

Well, just two more days and back to school.  Don't know if I am ready or not.  But I guess I don't have much of a choice if I want to get me degree.  I keep telling myself it was all worth it!

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Sunday Stills (Big Sky)

The sun is shining and the winds are a howling about 40 miles an hour if not more!  It seems like when the sun comes up the winds decide to come up along with it!  I have to say though that seeing the brightness of the sun is a lovely welcome after having gloom and doom for so many days!   Hope you all are having a good weekend.

Last night the kids and I went to see our own kind of Rodeo and I will have more on that tomorrow.  For now, have a blessed day!

Going no where............money

As you can see from the last picture, the fish are surviving in the heated pond.  The only bad thing is all the heaters being used to keep water from freezing and keeping my weaving room in the barn warm is costing us an arm and a leg!  I hate winter!  Bill went from 260 to 450!   We wonder why money goes no where.

Hope you all have a wonderful day and stay warm if you happen to live in one of those states that get colder than Hades, and stay cool if you are where it gets hotter than the devil.  ;~)

Mine Field

This is what you call the horse mine field!  It is ground that was soft and the horses punched it all into lumpy mounds and then the ground froze.  Now the horses walk around like they are about to step on a mine.  It gets hard to find spots to feed them so that they aren't having to walk so carefully.  Hard to do.

It was down to nine degrees this morning and a high of about 24.  Then, of course, the weather man is calling for in the upper thirties for a couple of days then back down in the twenties for the next week and beyond.  I have been waiting for it to get cold.

Went grocery shopping and went to Home Depot to pick up some filters for the water system.  We have a lot of sulfur and deposits in our water, so we try to keep filters on the water to prevent some of the nasty crud from getting into our drinking water.   It works pretty darn good along with the water softener on top of the filters.

Went out to the barn and did some weaving also, I now have three towels done.  They are going to be face towels.  I need to get a table runner done; for a fund raiser for women of domestic violence.  The college does a skit every year and then they have a silent auction and I donate some hand woven things for them.  Last year it was a towel and table runner and I think I will do the same for this year.

Hope you all had a great Friday.

Just another day on the Farm!

Chloe, has grown quite a bit.  She is our seven toed cat.  She hates the kitten and of course, she stays away from her as far as she can get.  Which means we only get her to sit in our laps waiting for pets, when the kitten is no where in sight.

Not much going on here at South View Farm, the animals are getting fat and sassy, with the winter months giving them a vacation.  I don't like the cold all that well, so I don't ride in the winter months.  Even if it has been a mild winter so far.

I'm off to get school books for this semester.  Only one more after this spring, then I will be graduating with  honors next spring.  At first I was going to stop and get my butt to work, but I am thinking that if possible I will be trying to get a bachelors degree. We shall see how the economy goes between here and the fall.  Just so you all know, I did make the Dean's List again!  Still have a 3.89 GPA!

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Pretty Picture Monday

Well, happy Monday to everyone.  If you are like me, you hate Monday's.  Not too bad at this moment but just one more week and it will be back to the old grind.

To my hubby, this picture is for you.  You of course know what this flower is and why I am posting it.  Tawny happened to see it blooming and I thought I would post it for you.  Hang in there honey, we miss you and thank you everyday for taking care of us like you do and you are well loved and appreciated!

Hope you all have wonderful day.  5 Starr's Farm names her Monday, Pretty Picture Monday, so I thought I would do the same.

As you know the first picture is of the boys demanding their meal!  Don't they look starved to you? ;~)  Another month or so should do it and they will be in the freezer or off to the auction.  We decided that we still have quite a bit of beef in the freezer and won't have much room for two.  But shhhhhhh.   we don't want them to know that yet.

The bottom picture is of the pond.  We decided to leave the fish in the pond this year and just put in a stock tank heater to keep the water warm enough, so that the fish will be able to survive without having to bring them in the house.  Last year we tried putting them in the stock tank but the cows and the horses share tanks.  For some reason the cows love to drag hay into the tank or put their butts towards the tank to go number 2 into the tank! We lost the fish due to the lovely mess the cows liked leaving, and of course then we have to dump the tank and start with fresh water all over again, just didn't work out well for the poor fish!

The hubby made it in one piece to the lovely sunny and 75 degree Florida! (lucky s.o.b.)  But he is going crazy without his Garmin!  He got spoiled by having a lady telling him where to go!  :~)  All kidding aside, he hates being away from home and on top of that he will be working 6-7 day weeks until the job is done.  He gets to use a drill that has never been run, and we all know what happens when a new piece of equipment has never been used.  ( you have kinks to work out)

We had rain yesterday and things are starting to melt, but still have quite a bit of snow on the ground.  Other than that is was a mild day and really foggy most of the day.  Hope you all have a great weekend.

Fly away!

It was a beautiful morning the day I left for NJ.  It was a nice day down here in Rockaway, NJ. But I will be headed back home tomorrow by 6 a.m. and we are supposed to get rain and maybe even a little freezing rain to boot!  Yuck, I hate the ice, I don't mind snow but why, oh, why do we need to have ice!  If we are lucky it won't be too bad.  It actually is supposed to get up in the 30's almost 40 but hopefully it doesn't get too cold at night.  We are supposed to have January thaw by Sunday or Monday, almost mid 50's!

The hubby takes off tomorrow out of the airport by 7 a.m. tomorrow for 2 weeks.  It could take longer but they are in a hurry for the job to get done.  He will be working at Universal Studios!  Some secret new place that they are behind in and they need to get done asap!  Poor man will be working seven days a week to get the job done in time.  So no play time for him.(which sucks)

Hope you all had a great day or are having a good day.

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

Clouds are starting to roll in.  The rain is supposed to come Friday and Saturday, as the weather turns warmer.  We are supposed to get up into the 40's those two days.   I really don't want rain, I would rather stick with the snow.

As you can see, I am able to post pictures.  I went to google chrome and now I am able to blog pictures.  I don't really care for the way that chrome is set up, so I only use it when I have too.  I like it so much better when I am able to post a picture, even if I do repeat the pictures.  I seem to just love taking scenery pictures. I do a better job with scenery than I do with people or animals for that matter.

Not much going on, went out to the barn this afternoon and wound a warp for a set of face towels.  I am hoping that a soap shop that we go to will like them enough to buy.  Hopefully, it will get me a regular market to sell too!  Wish me luck.  I was even given the opportunity to try selling in a restaurant store. (my kitchen towels that is)  So, I will be weaving and making money before I know it :)

I might go down to NJ to see the hubby tomorrow, so that I can spend some time with him, before he flies to o Florida on Friday.  Who know when I will see him again.

Hope everyone is having a great day and evening, where ever you may be!

Florida

Well, first the hubby is on his way to Florida at the end of week, so far that is.  I am not looking forward to not seeing my husband for the next four, too five weeks!  I hate it when he is gone during the winter months!  So lets pray that we have no major snow storms until he is back home.  I was going to post an old picture of the Florida beach, from the last time that he was down there working, we went to see him and took lots of pictures.   He had to brag to us yesterday that he was going to be in 70 degree weather with only 50's at night.  I wanted to club him over the head!  Florida was OK to visit but I do not like their bugs, @$#%$%^^.

As I was saying before I let myself get side tracked, I was going to post a picture, but for some reason blogger is not letting post pictures!  It doesn't even let me browse for a picture, so that I can post it.  I am beginning to think that I just might go over to word press and see how well that goes.  I might just have to change my blog over.  We shall see.  It has been over four days since I have been able to post a picture and that is why I have not posted.   I like to post pictures but I guess I won't be for a while.

Hope you all had a great weekend.

Ice

The son had to take this set of icicles and take a picture.  We usually don't get to take down a whole set without it breaking apart!

I am down in New Jersey again cleaning and making money, yippee!   Glad to get away from the farm and school even if it is only for a few days!  No worries, (well, kinda of anyway) the kids take good care of the animals while I am gone.  Sometimes it is nice to get away even for just a day.  I am always glad to get home though, too!

Happy New Year!

Hope everyone had a great New Year's day.  I hope everyone has a wonderful year ahead!   Both the hubby and I stayed  up long enough to see the new year come in.  Usually it is just the kids and me that stay up long enough to bring in the new year but even the kids end up falling asleep most of the time!  I am one of those people that likes to stay up long enough to bring in the new year, even if it is in the comfort of my recliner!

I have to say though, that I am glad that the holiday's are over and we can get back to the normal everyday living!   Hopefully get back into the groove of things.   It takes months to get ready for the holidays and only a few hours for it to be over with.  Good thing it only comes once a year!

As you can see we are finally in the snow season.   It is supposed to get a little colder this week, it is going to finally feel like winter!  I have to say that I was glad to see some snow, finally.  I am just glad that we aren't supposed to get anymore for the next few days!   I like the amount we did get, just right!   Hope you all have a good rest of the week!
