Gone Fishing

The weekend was just beautiful.  We decided to take out the boat for the last time this season.  We went fishing on the lake and the fish were not biting!   Kegan is the only one that caught a fish.   We did enjoy being on the boat and just enjoyed the nice warm sunny day.

We almost didn't get to go.  Annie got colic and I spent the first part of the morning trying to get her back to her old self again.  Can't figure what had caused it.  Her feed hadn't changed in anyway.  The only thing we could figure is maybe some kind of weed was in her hay that didn't agree with her or because our hay was a little too rich for her.  We had first cutting and second cutting all mixed together because we weren't' able to get first cutting off this year.  But, she is her old self again and doing good.  She has colic before on us, when she got herself out on the pasture grass.  (without our permission)

The colors are changing fast.  Up in the Adirondacks the colors are around 50 to 80 percent changed already.  We hope to take a trip to see the colors before they start to go the other way and fall off the trees.

Hope you had a great day.

Second Ride

Yes, that is Sirocco and I.  This is my second ride on him.  We had a little issue of getting the halter on and a big issue with standing still, so that, I could get up on him.   I went to ride with my daughter and we just could not get him to stand still long enough for me get up on him and then, the fear issue with me kicked in and I did not get to ride him that day.  Friday, Brian was home and able to work with Sirocco and I and we got it done together.  It takes some getting used to making myself bring up my energy and making him realize that I am boss not him and he needs to listen to me.  I have to admit that I am a wimp, not an assertive kind of person.  It is very hard for me to get assertive with Sirocco.   Sirocco has some major issues with his ears being touched, he is a lot better now that Brian has had him.  Brian just needed to show me what I needed to do, to get him to let his ear be touched long enough to get his bridle on.  The standing part, I could not figure out what to do to make him stand still, especially since then the fear issue started to kick in and I wasn't in any mood to try to figure out what needed to get done to make him stand still.

Now that Brian has had Sirocco for a couple of months, Sirocco knows that he can't get away with that crap with Brian.  After Brian and I worked together with Sirocco, I was able to get on Sirocco and have a nice ride.  Once I was in the saddle, Sirocco listened real well.  Now all I have to do is work on my fear issues and hopefully be able to ride with little or no apprehension.  When Sirocco's energy kicks in, I get scared and panic that he will run off with me.  NOW that is what I have to work on.

Hope you have a great day.

No, I am too, tired.

Went to feed Scout this morning and here is the reaction I got.  I told him he could go back to sleep after he ate his breakfast.

Not much going on.  Trying to get things done and not succeeding very well.  I guess I will wait until the last minute, then decide that I have waited long enough to accomplish those projects.

Have a great evening.

Not so handsome

I have to say that turkeys are very good to eat, but when it comes to looks, they sure don't have much going for them.   They are getting bigger everyday and fatter!  Just in time for Thanksgiving dinner.

Not much else going on here at the farm.  We are supposed to have a really nice weekend.  This week has been just gorgeous.  A great week to spend out with the horses.  Which I have been doing.

Hope you are having a great week.

Last Day of Summer

I went to our local flower, garden shop.  They had the flowers on sale for ten dollars each.  I couldn't refuse.  It is nice to have flowers towards the end of the season.  The leaves are turning and the garden plants are just about done.  I put up 35 quarts of tomatoes this weekend, next weekend it is time to put up our sauerkraut.  Then all that is left is the brussel sprouts.  We are still getting a few green peppers and tomatoes. It is time to start thinking about getting things ready for the winter months.  We finally got the last of our hay in, and now it is time to finish getting the wood chopped and split.  We will be ordering another load of logs soon.

Hope you have a great week.

Cobble

I went to New Jersey just for another load of cobblestone.  We are going to make a new sidewalk and if we have enough, make a border around our pond.  Then, again we thought of making a BBQ Pit with some of them.  We really haven't gone beyond the sidewalk at this point.  So, now we will have three piles of cobbles in our house yard.  They are buried in the job site that Matt is working on.  They think they were used in the ballast of ships.

Hope you have a great weekend.

South View Enterprises

I am starting to look forward to winter, when things begin to slow down.  I know, bite my tongue!  I have been pretty busy and really not paying attention to my blogging.  I told the hubby that I needed to start picking up the camera again.  I seem to take less and less pictures every day.

I been taking care of dogs with allergies, arthritis, and ear mites.  Doing the everyday running for the household.   Doing running for the farm and taking care of the farm.  Sound familiar?  I just haven't really been in the blogging mood lately.  I have been trying to get the training done on my horse and getting the trainer pinned down so that I can get over there and get some time on my horse before he is back home.  The young man works at a pharmacy, and does horse shoeing on the side.  He is pretty busy.  (not my problem, but my horse is)

I have also gotten some bad news, my father has stage four cancer, and we have been going weeks without knowing what kind it is and what his prognosis is.  He has had a biopsy and found lumps on his lung, bladder (was taken off, the lump that is), and then a week later found one on his neck.  Hopefully we will know what to expect by Thursday.  When he goes to see the cancer specialist.   My sister and I are going to expect the worst and hope for the best.

Tomorrow the farrier comes and I head down to New Jersey for the rest of the week.  The hubby has been collecting cobblestones from the job site; he is working at and he has around a hundred of them to load onto the truck for me to bring home.  More projects in the works!

Hope you have a great week.

Sunsets

The sunset Saturday night was just spectacular.   I think my best photographs are of the sunsets.  I am a lot better at taking those kinds of photos than most any other picture.

Today is going to be spent picking tomato's and if there is enough time, I will be canning also.  I just might wait until tomorrow morning.  I haven't really decided.  I think it will all depend on how many I have to put up.  If there is not to many, I will be canning today.

Hope you have a wonderful day.

Sweet!

I found an easier way to put up corn.   I now bake it, then husk it.  The silk comes right off without any fuss!   I was able to get 8 quarts frozen.  Still have some left out in the garden.   The tomatoes are next.  They are just starting to ripen and hopefully, I am able to get enough put up, before the blight takes over and rots the the plants.

You know when summer is over, you are freezing and canning your hard work from the summer months.  It sure is nice to know that we will be eating fresh vegetables that was grown by our own hands.   I think that is the best part about being a farmer and gardener.  You know where most of your meal is coming from.  In another couple of weeks we will be getting ready to put more beef in the freezer and turkey!   We just bought new pullets this spring and are waiting for them to lay some fresh eggs.  It has been awhile since we have had some fresh eggs.  You wonder sometimes why its worth doing all that work, until you put that food in your mouth!  Then its WOW, I grew this food and I know exactly what is in it and where it came from!

Hope you have a great weekend.

Used but New

I bought a used saddle and bridle at a garage sale.  I needed another saddle that I could use that didn't weigh 50 lbs.  It isn't anything beautiful but it will work.  I needed another that would fit my derriere and not weigh a ton.  I only had one saddle that would fit my horses and be reasonably comfortable.  Now I have another. It will come in handy now that I have two horses that are rideable.

Sirocco ended up not showing in the Western classes Sunday at the fair.  Sad face :(    Brian was too tired from the previous classes during the week.   I will show him in western classes next year hopefully.  We will see how long it takes me to learn what I need to learn to show.   Then again, I might leave the showing to Brian and stick to the regular trail riding and pleasure riding.  We shall see.

Hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend.
