Saturday already

Seems like one day runs into another.   Winter blues are setting in.  I want to do lots outside and for me it is not conducive to being outside for  long.  I hate the cold and so does my skin.  I get cold and the skin starts drying out like instantly!    I can put lotion on every hour and still have cracked hands and heels.

Now that I have a new heater for up in the barn, hopefully I can keep it warm enough out there that I can get some more weaving done!   Watch and read some of my horsemanship literature.

Today is going to be a nice day, the daughter is working all day and the son is off skiing for the day and the hubby is working the weekend and I have the house all to myself along with the two dogs and two cats.   Not feeling all that well so I think I will be curled up in my chair with a book for a while then maybe this afternoon out to the barn!   Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Snow

I know we are hearing that all the time and we still have a long way to go before it leaves us, but just think spring, it will get here eventually!

Well, yesterday was the last day for Jury Duty, yippy! It was actually pretty neat to learn a little bit about the law and its workings, if I can do it again I will with out to much complaining. The only thing that I did not like was having to sit when I knew there was other things that I could be doing instead!

Hope you all have a good weekend.

They arrived!

They made it here yesterday.   I won the contest over at Stacey's Treasures.   Her and her sister Paula always celebrate their mothers birthday even after she passed away!  I think that is pretty special.  Their mother loved cards and Hallmark was her favorite.   So for her birthday this year on the 9th of January they had a give away and it was homemade cards.    They are just beautiful and Stacey did such a beautiful job!    I love them!  Thank you so much!  I hate to even use them.  I will make sure that who ever does receive them are people that will treasure them!

New Jersey

Well, no pictures today or for Sunday stills as I am down in the city visiting the hubby, or should I say in the outer skirts.  I am actually in Rockaway, NJ.   The hubby has been gone now for over two weeks and we missed each other  enough that I had to go down and see him.   Next week is going to be the third week that he is going to be gone from home.   I was lucky enough that no storms were coming in for over the coming weekend.

It is pretty cold out here in the east.  We are finally getting to the single digits at night with wind chills of below zero!  Monday is supposed to be the coldest!   We did get another 4 to 5 inches of snow on Thursday night into Friday morning.   I think we now have around a total of 8 to 12 inches on the ground!

I am enjoying the relaxing time.   It is always nice to have nothing to have to do for a few days.  No chores or cooking dinner or getting up at the crack of dawn, even though about 6  is the latest that I can actually sleep comfortably and then it is time to get up and at least get the first cup of coffee!   Hope you all have a good evening and the rest of your weekend goes well.

I want to really thank JB for the lovely comments about the saddle blanket I wove for him and I really hope it works and holds up.   I will be making more and improving them a little better.   I am going to do some more experimenting and improving things if I can.

Is it REAL

Yes, it is real! I brought in one of my petunia plants that I had in a pot. I put it in on of the windows on the back porch and wa-la, a flower! I really didn't think it would bloom but by gosh it did! I love having flowers in the house when there is snow on the ground outside! Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Pillows

I had bought the fabric to make pillows when I had saw some western style ones, I couldn't get conchos to put on them and had to use wooden buttons, but I was able to find some nice fringe to go with the fabric also. I didn't take a lot of time trying to make them perfect. I decided that my furniture needed some fancy pillows and have had the fabric now for at least a couple of years and finally with the hubby gone over the weekend and not seeing him until next weekend I had enough time on my hands to make them, finally and here you are. I didn't do to bad for being an amature ! Did I ever tell you that I hate to sew or at least I used too!

Hope you all have a good afternoon.

Macro

Well, I don't know if this picture qualifies as a macro but here you have it. RJ is still going strong after he was hit by a truck. He is all better and still gets around great!

Nothing really new going on at the farm. One of the big steers shed its horn this morning and everyone panicked when they saw all the blood, except me. I just called my local farmer friend and asked if that was normal and he said yes, don't worry about it. Blood was all the way down the side of his face. Not a pretty sight but he is OK.

Was down below zero this morning with the wind chill factor but the sun is shining and it looks pretty out there, even if it is colder than heck. They are calling for one day of above freezing which isn't all that great because they are calling for freezing rain and I sure hope we get the snow and let the southern part of the state get the rain!

Finished JB's saddle blanket and sent it off to him Friday afternoon, and hopefully he has it by Wednesday at the latest. Turned out a lot better than I expected. If it goes well I will be making more. I still have some warp left and I think I will be sampling different things and hopefully improving on the design and so on.

Hope you all have a wonderful day and stay warm for those of us that live in the cold weather climates!

Sunday Stills (Macro)

The father in law carved this Tufted Tit Mouse and we were lucky enough to receive it.  It is one of my favorites out of all the carvings that we do have.  Hope you all have a wonderful day.

1-13-11

I sorta took JB's idea today and just put the date up for today. The snow is done for now, we ended up with around 8 inches and for the time being, they are just calling for flurries but maybe more accumulation Tuesday. We shall see. Wind is blowing like crazy, which lets all the lovely snow we got blow all over the road and drift which is no picnic to drive on when you are driving a car.

Off to do Jury Duty. Still have three weeks left yet and then my term for now is done and hopefully for the next 6 to 8 years before I get called again. It wasn't as bad as I thought. I did the Grand Jury which is a lot better than trial! I only had to go once a week, which was nice. Trial you end up going for every day for who knows how long!

Hope you all have a good day and stay warm and dry!

Brrr

It still hasn't hit the zero mark as of yet but it was a whopping ten degrees this morning, as you can see lots of ice and some snow, predicting more tonight but the big city is supposed to get the bulk of the storm. Which is just fine by me! I can handle 4 to 9 inches they can have the foot or more!

Nothing new on the farm which is always good. Same old thing, chores, work, chores, some reading and watching TV time, then bed and back up the next day to do it again. I like having nothing new ;-) Hope you all have a wonderful day and stay warm!

Its Done!!!

Well, the saddle blanket is finished.  At least the weaving part of it.  I have some finishing touches to do on it and it will be on its way to its new owner.  Hopefully by next week.   I am really happy with it and hopefully it will hold up under the wear and tear of using it.  We shall see.  Hope you all have a wonderful day!

We got snow accumulation yesterday and last night for the first time this year.   Around 4 to 6 inches, which is not a lot for these parts.  I am waiting for the big one like over a foot!  The last couple of years we have been getting it in the month of February!

Just hang-in

Jerky is one of our favorite things to make here.  The hubby does a great job.  We just had a  couple of deer put in the freezer and one was processed to make just jerky out of it.  We were using seasoning that we can buy but we just used up the last of it and now we have made up our own.   It was just delicious!  I unfortunately let it  cook in the oven just a little too long so it was a lot tougher than normal but still good.  The hubby usually takes a big bag with him to work and ends up giving it all away except for a few pieces for himself but now we have gotten smart and started to sell it instead, because it has gotten to be pretty popular with his co-workers.   I won't give out all our secrets but all you need is to slice thinly beef, venison,or what ever red meat you like and season both sides with a combination of seasoning you prefer with curing salt and then put into refrigerator for at least 24 hours and then hang on the oven rack and cook slowly in a 235 degree oven for at least 2 hours or until it is done to your taste.  We keep the door to the oven propped open with a butter knife so it doesn't cook to fast.  Have a wonderful day.

We use 2 teaspoons of curing salt per pound of meat.  Seasonings we don't really measure out but usually equal parts of seasoning to the salt.  A lot is done per your own taste, we have added subtracted after we have made the jerky a few times and we still tweak it every time we make it.

Good Morning!

Well, for me it is time to go back to work after a week and a half of vacation and I tell you what, I am ready to go back but then again.  I hate being gone so long then have to get back into the swing of things.  I loved being home but I find that you get just a little bit lazier if you stay home too long.   Especially when it is winter and you can't do to much outside.   I love to be able to get up and see this kind of sky.  This was taken a couple of days ago but it sure is a beauty!  Hope you all have a good day.
