Archived from Sunday

Went out the Sunday to take pictures of the guys running the saw mill, and what happens?  I get out there too late.  They were just getting done for the day.  They are sawing logs up for making a new haw rack for the running gear.   Have to start getting things ready for hay season (when it gets here that is).    Then after the lumber is sawed  for that, then it is off to sawing logs for our raised beds for the garden.  Hopefully he can get it done before planting season.  Hope you all are having a good week.. I have been doing homework, trying to get ahead before next week.

Have a great evening.

Son

Our goofy son, he didn't want his picture taken and I sorta snuck one in as quick as I could!   He is staying home this week and taking care of the farm for us.  He is such a dear!   He has this week off also.  So, it isn't all that hard to take care of the animals.  We only have two horses, two steers, one calf, two dogs, two cats, lots of barn cats, two sets of chickens.  Heck sounds pretty easy to me :~)

Love you son!

All Done

I finished the next set of towels.  It is what is called a waffle weave and it is the first time that I have done this design.  I have decided that they will make fantastic towels for in a bathroom and I am going to make full size towels with this weave for bath towels.  They shrink quite a bit and if I use a heavy cotton they fluff up pretty nice!

Hope you all have a good week.  I am down in NJ with the hubby for the week, I cleaned house all day today and the rest of the week I will be doing homework and hopefully catch up and get a head before its back to school next week.

I have decided that I might go into accounting after I get my associates in Business Administration.  I love accounting and some accounting fields you can make some darn good wages.

Sunday Stills (green)

The hubby has gotten the early garden bug.  As you can see, the plants are up and pretty green already.  I asked if he thought maybe he started just a tad too early.  We still have at least two months before things can be planted in the ground.  Then again, with the way the weather has been the last few years who knows?  The plant in the last picture is the plant that the hubby bought me when our daughter was born over 22 years ago!

I think all of us are ready to see lots of green!  Seeing these pictures will give us all itchy feet, whether it is to start gardens, do lots of horse back riding, field work or just smelling the fresh air of things growing!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

The spring break has officially begun.  Doesn't look much like spring though!  That is okay, I can wait.  It is just around the corner.

Not much going on at the farm.  Next week will be going to NJ to be with the hubby for the week and leaving the son to take care of the farm.  He has the week off also.  He will be happy to have the house to himself and he can play all the video games he wants and no one will be telling him to get off, he can sleep in and go to bed as late as he wants.  He will be having a good week also!

Hope all my bloggers are surviving the winter if you have snow that is.

Spring?!

First day of Spring is Wednesday.  I think mother nature has forgotten!  The snow sure is pretty, we are supposed to get any where from 8 to 12 inches today.  The college closed but the son had school, and as he was leaving the snow decided to pick up!  I know, I shouldn't complain because I know some of my wonderful bloggers have been getting a lot more than we have!  I don't mind the snow, I get to stay in and only go out when it is time for chores!  Not too bad of a day.  I love snow days, I forgot what it was like to have a snow day!

Hope everyone is having a great morning!

The sun, the sun!

The last few days in the morning there has been some nice sunrises.  This morning I remembered the camera;  the daughter was with me and I told her to take a picture.  It came out really nice.  It is getting to that time of year where we will be able to take some beautiful sunrises and sunsets, which are my favorite to take.

Just one more week of school and we get a spring break.  I forgot how much time off school kids get during the year!  I have to say though that I am glad to be one of those, but in reality, I really don't get time off, because the family still needs to be fed and the house kept reasonably clean and the horses and cows need to be fed. No vacation for me.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Library?

Book anyone?  You are seeing a small part  of our book collection.  Just think, no one can have enough books and of course you can never have enough room to store them all either!  Just so you all know, I really could do without seeing a book for a few months.  Seems like I am always sticking my nose in a binder of pages!  Good thing is, I do like to read just not text books.  Pretty boring and dry stuff.

Hope you all are having a good week.

More weather reports

It is not a very nice day out today.  We are getting lots of rain and flood watches along with it.  I don't think I like any kind of weather we have been getting lately.  Better weather will come and then I can complain about that too!  I really don't care one way or the other what the weather is, just so I can stay warm, or dry, or cool!  Hmmmm, looks like the birds are lucky, they can stay in the cold if they want because they have people like me to feed them.  Here is one happy bird!

Hope you all stay dry, cool and warm!

New project

These are the new towels I am weaving.  It is called a waffle weave design, it should shrink up to be a little more absorbent than some of my other towels I have made.  These are going to be face towels or hand towels, which ever you would like to call them.  I will take more pictures when I take them off the loom and wash them.

Hope everyone had a good Monday.

Maple Syrup

We went out to breakfast at the local maple farm (Stone House).  We had pancakes, waffles, and sausage with coffee, orange juice!   They started to boil the sap as we were sitting there.   They want to try to make around 1000 gallons of maple syrup this year.  It will take around 50,000 to 60,000 gallons of sap to make 1,000 gallons of syrup!  The steam that is around 190 degrees is what will heat the sap.   The wood stove has to stay at 219 degrees to keep the steam hot enough.   They tap around 3500 trees.

They are open for breakfast from 8 to 1 every Saturday and Sunday from February to April.  Friends of ours took us a few weeks ago and we had to take family this weekend.  This is our favorite place to go for breakfast now.  It is a friendly atmosphere and they bring  the meal right to your table and it is all you can eat for just  6 dollars!

Hope you all have have a wonderful day!  I also wanted to let my wonderful bloggers know that I had to put a word verification on my comments, because I am hoping to cut down on the spam that I have been getting.  I was getting spam everyday that I blogged and I hope this will cut down on the spam.  Sorry for any inconvenience that it may cause.

Now you see it and now you don't

The top picture was on my way to school and the bottom one is on the way home from school.  It was a mess going to school, and it was no fun driving the car in it either.   I have to say though that front wheel drive isn't too bad in the snow!

It is going to be a very nice weekend.  Almost 50 by tomorrow!  Hope you are having a good weekend.  I am now on my way out to the barn to finally do some weaving.  I got all homework done during the week and now I can spend some time weaving.  Hopefully I will be posting some pictures soon.

Have a great day!

Mmmm Good.

One thing about feeding time, I can take all the pictures I want and they hold still.

We are still in the throws of winter for today anyway.  We are supposed to get around 3 to 6 inches of snow, which in the grand scheme of things, isn't all that much.  Just a nuisance!  Then of course spring will be here this weekend.  Supposed to reach almost 50 by this Sunday.  Now that is the kind of weather I look forward too!

Hope everyone had a great day.

Bad luck?

All black, is this a sign?  I sure hope not!

Hope you all have a wonderful week.  I am doing the same stuff, homework, homework  and barn chores.  That is about it.  Not much to blog about other than that.
